Safeguards and Security
Safeguards and security at the NNSS assures risks to personnel, property, and
classified and sensitive information and materials, including special nuclear materials, are adequately
managed and protected.
This is accomplished by:
- ensuring the appropriate levels of security protection;
- ensuring effective planning and prudent application of resources; and
- ensuring personnel receive security training appropriate for their roles.
Physical security at the NNSS and related facilities is managed by a security
contractor. They bring a staff of highly trained protective force and administrative personnel committed
to protecting the people and resources carrying out the Site’s important national security mission.
